Buddy Read

Anastasia Stading, 1st grade, reads to sisters, Anastasia and Lukia Chuprov, grades 6 & 8, during this morning's buddy read in honor of #DrSuess' 114th birthday and #ReadAcrossAmericaDay.

The event was hosted in Lindsey Blaine's K-2 classroom where the Nikolaevsk middle school sat with their "littles" to learn about the author, literary themes, cultural context, and reading fluency.

After a 20 minute multi-media presentation, including a delightfully inflected, often rhymed lesson and read-a-loud from Ms. Blaine, students split into groups to take turns reading favorite books chosen by the littles.

The event wrapped up with a maker challenge: Who can make the tallest Truffula Tree from cardboard, silly putty, marshmallows, and spaghetti noodles? The Lorax would have been proud at their careful conservation of the mini-marshmallows. Happy #DrSeussDay!
